Sporting stumbled once again in the Liga Portugal Betclic, drawing 2-2 with Tondela at Alvalade in a postponed match from the 26th round. The Lions squandered a two-goal lead in stoppage time, extending their poor run with only one win in their last seven matches. This result is crucial for Tondela in their fight for survival.
After a tense and somewhat disjointed first half, Sporting managed to take the lead in the second half. Luis Suárez opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, and João Silva, with an own goal in the 78th, seemed to have put the Alvalade side on course for a comfortable victory.
However, the end of the match was disastrous for Sporting. Tondela, who had already missed a penalty through Makan Aïko, reacted surprisingly in the final minutes. Salvador Blopa scored an own goal at 90+2, and Cícero leveled the match at 90+4, completely silencing the Estádio de Alvalade.
This draw worsens Sporting's bad spell, as the team goes through a worrying period and once again loses ground in the fight for the top spots. With this result, Sporting remains in third place with 73 points, two behind second-placed Benfica and nine behind leaders FC Porto.
For Tondela, this point gained carries enormous weight in the battle for permanence in the top flight. The Beira side remains in 17th place with 22 points but showed remarkable fighting ability until the end, at one of the toughest grounds in the league.
At Alvalade, the ghost of an emotional and competitive collapse materialized once again, now with very real consequences on the scoreboard and the club's ambition.
